Well been very busy on the tournament front. I will post Nicon and TS3 reports in a few days as well as a good close look at the new warhammer 8th.
Game 1: Nick I
Nick grudged me for Brins since I was also sort of showing him the 40k ropes it would have been embarrassing to lose to him but after the crushing loss at Equinox I was rally looking to get some payback! With a beer to winner the stakes where high but the Death Guard pulled off a big victory taking max points.
Game 2: Danial Hayden
Having never played a bike army befor I was a little worried this was going to be a free loss. Danial had overwhelming long range shooting over me and should have kept at arms lenth but instead tryed to dig me out of a corner. With most of our amrys engaed in combat thanks to him underestimating the potential assault range from rhinos I was able to bog him down with plague marines. In came two iorn clads and started takeing me apart but they where soon dealt with thanks to my termanators who killed one after the other and romped home disapointedly the deamon prince died befor killing anything. Win just sort of max.
Game 3: Mark Buttle
Nids! After winning the last game in a mission and verase a army I should have lost to it was looking like my streak was at a end. Mark made a big mistake going first with little to no long range firepower I wasint able to put much if any damage into his units befor they crossed the table and swamped me. Holding up in a corner I was able to deal with his army peacemeal and thanks to some lucky rolls was able to walk out with a draw! Trust me a draw is a win vs that army.
Game 4: Jed Applegate
How much AP1/2 pie plates do you need! Jed had a huge space marine army with 2 vind's a anilator 4 rhinos 10 sternguard and vulkhan I rushed forwards and poped smoke and then spent the rest of the game tieing up his units while trying to limit the damage the game ended in a draw if it wasint for Jed not picking up on the mission objectives I would have lost. Draw with some bonus points
So end of day 1 2/2/0 I was very happy not to lose a game but was worried about some of the armys and players floating about on the top tables. Some poker and beer with a good night had by all.
Game 5: Ghost of dooom!
I was all happy until I was told my easy necron opponent was int able to make it in so I would be playing the Ghost... ? Well normaly a ghost is meant to play the bottom and take an easy going list, but that was not to be instead I was going to play a really tooled up nid army with all the goodies compounded by the mission I killed everything but the two outflanking gaunt making large ugly bugs being a breakthrough there was nothing I could do. Loss but got a few points.
Game 6: Izzy
Izzy had a fun blood angel list but got the bad end of a rock paper scissors match up being asked to split his force and contest objectives. Also his dice decided to become lemmings, the crowing moment was Dante a Chaplin and priest with a few sanguinary failed to kill 7 plague marines then getting meltaguned and assaulted by 2 squads and my terminators. Izzy was a top bloke about it and took the smashing like a pro if only more players where like this when the dice failed them and smiled and laughed rather than throw there toys! Win with max points.
Was a great weekend apart from the one game I scraped 2nd out of 30 with some awesome soft scores big props to Haydn K for being a good bastard and hosting us.

Nurgle vs Khorne
40k practice time. Scott showed up with chaos marines instead of nasty icky bugs. Kharn the betrayer tag teaming with a winged daemon prince of Khorne for his HQ's, two foot slogging berserker squads and a walking chaos space marine squad with power fist with plasma gun and a meltagun with mark of Khorne and finally two rhino squads with the setup as the foot sloggers oh did I forget to add in 3 defilers?
So some what in your face nasty list with 3 pie plates a turn ouch!
The mission was a variant on kill points in secret we choose 3 units they where non heavy/fast attack and not dedicated transports and ranked them as primary(3), secondary(2) and tertiary(1) then chose one unit with the same restrictions to be our protected unit that was worth 4 for keeping alive.
I had winged daemon prince with wartime and mark of nurgle, 4 squads of 7 plague marines, 3 of them in rhinos squad of 7 terminators with lots of combi weapons, power fists and chain fists and a heavy flamer, predator annihilator and finally squad of 7 lesser daemons.
I chose the daemon prince and then both berserker squads as my objectives while making my foot sloggers with plasma guns my unit to protect.
I placed my whole army right into center in front of a large pile of boulders and rocks. And had the terminators in play rather than deep strike. He had Kharn and both berserker squads in the center right where I hoped they would be and a rhino on both flanks with a foot squad about to run up onto the castle tower. His daemon prince hid behind a large tower. This worried me maybe he was thinking about keeping him back or had the prince as his protected unit.
Turn 1: Winning the role to deploy first and Scott failing to take the insensitive meant I was able to go first and with night fighting in effect didn't want to to advance into his battle cannons plus he had a lot more men than I did so winning a game of aeration didn't seam likely the annihilator stood still and tried to incinerate some berserker but the night was to dark.
Scott ran at me with every thing except the daemon price and that was worrying. A defiler lobed some ordnance at a rhino and missed that was about it.
Turn 2: all the rhinos moved up and poped smoke the annihilator kept still and fried 3 berserkers the daemon squad was a no show so it moved back to Scott the trap was set would he fall for it.
The zerkers rushed at me but the squad with khan was held up in difficult terrain while the second squad assaulted the pred smashing it to bits with ease but that was fine as the zerkers where infront of my terminators and a rhino full of marines. The pie plates rained down on the rhinos one clicped the daemon prince taking a wound off him even with the cover save. Also 2 terminators where zaped by a chaos marine squad shooting from the hatch of the rhino.
Turn 3: Go time with the daemons being a no show all marines jumped out of there rhinos 2 squads one with 2 flamers the other with toting melta guns the daemon price put on wartime and moved up to help deal with khan and his buddy's while the terminators moved up and sprayed the second squad with some heavy flamer goodness with the last rhino squad moving up in support. The terminators lost a few to the power first but cleaned up the lads and ran backwards. Moving one of the champs up to b2b with khan and sending both squads into the berserker almost left the prince out and hand roll of 6 saw him into combat with the squad, Khan chopped up some marines and one of his own before being pulped by the power fist and the daemon prince took some wounds before ripping what was left of the squad apart. All but my primary objective achieved and I had only lost a pred and most of my army was still up and going.
Scott sent in a defiler and fleeted it into my prince but before the massive contraption could do anything it was ripped lim from lim. He sent his prince into my squad and failed T5 and losing charging attacks helps a lot. A wound from my powerfist helped in the long run. Every thing els moved up and shot my terminators who where down to a few at this point and my keep safe squad was bugging out but not fast enough.
Not a lot left at this point the lessers never show thanks to both icons dieing and them being lazy gits. My prince moved up and after being asked for an encore repeating the a similar feat on Scott's daemon prince wing from wing! And both him and the squad move up to engage what I though was his protected unit.
Mean while Scott gets to grips with my protected unit and a long ongoing fight takes place taking the better part of a Khorne squad with power fist to do the biz.
My prince and squad went into his foot squad and ate them. I lost my foot squad and last terminator I had 2 marines left and a deamon prince on 1 wound, Scott had 2 defilers both rhino squads and rhinos. I got the prince to run for a hill in the corner think he would be out of rang of Scott's guns I was wrong for getting the battle cannons both hit and I saved both on the 5+ ward to Scott's frustration.
In the end we both wiped out the others protected units. But I had achived all of my objectives while Scott had failed to kill my prince and last squad giving me a 4 points win Not bad for 2 models left on the table. What a fantastic kill point mission.

Warmachine and Hordes
Have been looking for a new game system. First one I have checked out was blood bowl but I don't think I can find any one in my area to pick this up with me. Moving on...
War-machine and Hordes after getting hold of a old copy of the rules and checking out pod casts and forums I have come to the conclusion this is what I may be after. A game with a small model count rich history and great looking mods. But what about the rules? Well they are complex and do need some time to get your head around, other side is the game play. Best way to describe the game play is play like you got a pair and go for the throat and that's million miles from warhammer and 40k, no comp just take what you like and smash people.
So after looking at all my options I have decided on a Khador army always loved Russians in games brings back memories of red alert and red faction.
So I'll be ordering the faction book and MrkII rule set before splashing on models.

40k practice well sort of
I have to remember to up date this thing! Been a slow going only one game was played vs Scott F. who has just moved back. He had the new Nids vs my Death Guard.
What a brutal game 10 warriors drop podded err I mean spored into my army hoping to give me something to shoot at and that's what I did first on the hit list was spore and that was dropped by plasma fire from the walking squad. termy's and pred went to work with 2 units of marines with melta's backing them up, 3 of the mid sized bugs where left including a prime. some new kind of big bug pooped out lots of little bugs swarming over his home objective while I tryed to hold the center and my own. It wasint to be I just was not able to take down his large squads with assault weapons and assaults focused list, while dealing with the bigger things like flying bone sword wielding monsters but in the end I killed an awful lot losing in the 6th turn where the game ended but if it had been 1 turn before it would have been a draw. Great game looking forward to tackling the bugs and hopefully posting up a more complete report!
On the painting side all 8 pistons are firing on a commission project and a lonely converted daemon prince for the 40k side.

Well Equinox is dun and dusted and I finished 30th out of 39 players, well my bad placing came down to a lack of generalship and bad match ups.
I had a all mounted WoC list, its a shame it looks great on paper but was just a large glass hammer on the battle field I also didn't get a lot of play testing. But I had some truly great games vs some really skilled players but this will be the last time I use WoC they just don't work inside the style I like to play but there are tournaments they are very appropriate(and look very nice).
Well after the dust settled I got back on the horse and built a Lizardmen list I was itching to play after my break from Lizards and thats what I did, My brother headed up for a weekend and then the long weekend after, He was using a list I wrote for him.
He had a Elf lord on Moon dragon with nasty kit.
2 Elf mages with kit and scrolls
2 x 10 archers
15 Spearelf's
16 Swordmasters
2 Light chariots
5 dragon princes
2 x bolt throwers
a Eagle
Its a very well balanced list with the tools to deal with most army's it can also play very heavy points denial with a good deployment, but suffers from being a jack of trades master on none If he loses one of his combat units unsupported its going to end rather nastily. But its also a list that should teach him how to deal with a lot of things with out committing to much.
So after about 8 games on the first weekend, and 3 the following I won 9 lost 1 and drew 1. It's like riding a bike after a long time, to easy!. And I'm looking forward to playing my lizardmen at Tin solders 3.

Warhammer in NZ
I'm a Warhammer tournament player from the Far North of New Zealand. This blog is to chronicle my experiences and performance as I go along from tournament reports to garage games painting and converting plus the odd commission job.
Its been a hectic few months playing back to back tournaments in over the top and fluffycon where I placed a happy 7th at OTT and a not so happy 23ish when I was looking to improve on my 9th from last year!
The next weekend sees the first truly BIG event being equinox with 40 fantasy players and 20ish 40k players its going to be a biggy. I was asked to judge the 40k side of things and I'm glad I'm not playing, with some truly good players and hard army's attending and 5-6 masters players its going to be a tough filed with little to no submarineing if things go wrong. The missions will come from games workshops new battle missions book and will not be released until the first day of the event so even more scope for big up sets and hard games.
Back to Fantasy the lists where released last night and there is some filth but most things are held in check by a well based players pack that was drawn up from a combination of ETC/UK and AUS Masters packs by Antony Kitson.
